PADI Scuba & Handicap Scuba Association Certification

The benefits of Scuba Diving are near & dear to us at Maven, including wreck diving, deep diving, underwater navigation, low light diving, rescue courses and more.

Our PADI Dive program may be exactly what you’re looking for. We offer comprehensive training in varied environments. You’re stepping into a largely unknown environment, and relying on knowledgable training & flawless operation of your equipment.

Our affiliations are with PADI, NAUI, EFR, and the Handicap Scuba Association, licensed as an authorized training provider respectively. PADI, or the Professional Association of Diving Instructors is the world’s premier scuba diving certification agency- encompassing an impressive 25 million divers worldwide. The Handicap Scuba Association (HSA) was developed by Jim Gatacre after losing use of his arm after a compression injury in 1972. His passion of scuba diving, and vision of enriching the lives of other impaired individuals was realized. Today HSA has an elite group of instructors worldwide with extensive training in transference, gear donning, embarkment, dive & recovery of individuals with mobility limiting disabilities.

Maven, partnered with the Handicap Scuba Association, offer levels A through C scuba certifications. This opportunity extends to individuals with moderate to severe physical, psychological, & neurological limitations including: amputees, para, hemi, & quadriplegic patients, individuals with multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, advanced spinal injuries, and individuals experiencing Post Traumatic Stress. Individuals are assessed on a case by case basis. Maven integrates with healthcare providers & caregivers to provide Scuba Instruction and certification to this demographic. This once impossible opportunity can drastically improve the quality of life for individuals afflicted by such limitations. Friends, family members, caregivers, and healthcare providers can benefit their challenged athlete by becoming certified as a HSA Dive Buddy- a diver with specific training dedicated to managing risk, modified rescue techniques, & safe diving protocols integral to the task of assisting a handicap adventure athlete.

Our Instructor is a former US Navy Petty Officer and professional diver with advanced medical training. He holds both advanced Professional Diving and Professional Rescuer credentials, is American Red Cross CPR/AED Instructor, and an Emergency First Response Primary & Secondary Care Instructor. He has worked as a Public Safety Diver assisting Police Dive Units, Mobile Rescue Teams, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the International Diving Institute.

When utilizing chartered training evolutions, Maven adheres to dive safety standards set forth by the United States Navy and United States Coast Guard operating procedures for passenger vessels providing commercial transport and support services to recreational divers. Dive training follows & exceeds safety limitations established by the United States Navy. PADI Scuba certifications follow PADI safety guidelines for both curriculum and in-water activities.
